MAINTAIN DECORUM

MAINTAIN DECORUM

It is a very sad state of affairs that the political parties in the countries are stooping so low that even the coveted post of President of India is not being given insulation from malicious attacks and image maligning campaigns. There is no doubt that India has shown degradation in keeping the decency in the political circles as many parties have taken undue liberties to bring unparliamentary behaviour in the political circles with anyone speaking anything for anybody without maintaining a decorum. This free for all situation in the political scenario of the country has dented the image of the people because political parties represent the electorate and such indecent behaviour is not at all acceptable. The latest controversy in the series is of Congress party demeaning the President of the country by calling her ‘Rashrapatni’. Of course, every person with a saner mind knows that the word used to address the President is derogatory and should not have been used but it is the problem with the country right now that people are crossing that thin line which otherwise no one preferred to cross. The oldest party of the country, the Congress should know that once the President administers the oath, he or she is President of all entire country and doesn’t belong to a single party or a segment of people. Calling her names is in no way justified and even the people sitting at helm should take up the matter on legal grounds as well. No doubt that the ruling party BJP has taken the matter very seriously after Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury called Droupadi Murmu the “rashtrapatni” and the Union minister Smriti Irani categorically said Chowdhury has used the term knowing well that it demeans Murmu and her office and is against India’s values. There is always a thin line which should not be crossed under any circumstance but the Congress did that and now it is advisable that the party should come up with an unconditional apology before the President and the country. It is pertinent to mention that Chowdhury is the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha and used the remark while talking to the media during his party’s protests over a host of issues.
