MAKE WOMEN FEEL SAFE

MAKE WOMEN FEEL SAFE

Making the world safe for the fair sex is the duty of one and all and the report with regard to more than 10 percent increase in the crime against women in Jammu and Kashmir is really a matter of great concern for the people, cops and the governments both at UT and the central level. Ten percent increase in crime against women in J&K in one year is really a very bad figure and therefore all the stakeholders should focus on the issue to ensure that the crime rate under this category should be made negligible because Jammu and Kashmir being a tourism oriented state has to be safe for all the people especially the girls and women because the mainstay of its socio-economic growth is tourist footfall and such reports definity dent he tourism prospects of the region which should not be the case. The government should give a deep thought to unveil the factors responsible for this negative trait and come out with an immediate panacea to rectify things which are proving wrong and creating an unhealthy atmosphere for the women and girls in the society. There is no doubt that the current situation is calling for the civil society and all the concerned Government agencies including JKP to work in tandem and with synergy to improve things as soon as possible. Reportedly, a total of 3517 cases under different heads of crime against women were registered in the year 2020 while as during the year 2021 the number increased to 3873, which is more than 10 percent of the last year’s data. Without going into the details of the nature of crime against the women, it is imperative that all the ways in which the women and girls are subjected to face society’s harshness should be eliminated at all levels starting from homes to offices, educational institutions, other workplaces and in public domain like parks, streets, buses, etc. This is the bounded duty of every citizen to play his or her significant role in stopping crime against women because if such a feeling will not sprout among everyone, the women in the society will continue to suffer, which is unacceptable and savage.
