START COUNTRYWIDE CAMPAIGN
It is highly praiseworthy that under the ongoing 75-day Coastal Clean-Up campaign launched on 5th July, 2022, over 200 tons of garbage mainly single use plastic has been removed from the Indian sea coasts making it amply clear that people have damaged the ecosystem very badly and there is need to focus on the issue more vigorously. It is pertinent to mention that the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh took a review meeting after 20 days of the launch of aforesaid campaign in which more than 5,200 volunteers from 24 States have already registered for the 75-day long campaign to raise awareness about Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar, which will culminate on International Coastal Clean-up Day on 17th September 2022. There is dire need to rope in NGOs, schools, citizen groups, children and youth forums, corporates, non-profit organisations, consular staff as well as the Municipal Corporations of the Coastal States to convert it into a mass movement. As the country saw revolution with regard to cleanliness after the clarion call given by none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself, it is imperative that all aspects with regard to transforming India into clean, green and serene country should be taken into consideration as campaigns like the one started for cleaning coastline of the country should also be initiated in other parts of the country to clean water bodies, dumping sites, cities and towns of the litter which has choked the country in the last few decades. No doubt that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a lead in the cleanliness campaign and has motivated the entire nation to keep the country clean by simple lifestyle changes. There are many simple ways by which a country can get rid of harmful single use plastic but for this honest approach of the citizens is a must and therefore mobilizing the communities is the key to absolute cleanliness in the country. The stakeholders should act in this direction to spread awareness and also tighten noose around the adamant segments of society which are creating hurdles in making India cleanest among all the countries.
