TWO TERRORISTS NEUTRALISED IN OP KATARAN

Srinagar, 30 Jun 2022. On receipt of specific input about the presence of terrorists in the general area of village Kataran, Kulgam along the River Vishwa, the Indian Army and JKP launched a joint cordon and search operation in the area at about 3:00 PM on 29 Jun 22. An Initial cordon was laid by Security Forces, blocking possible escape routes around the portion of densely forested area in the vicinity of the village, where the terrorists were suspected to be hiding. As the cordon was assuming its position, at around 3:50 PM, terrorists in a bid to escape, brought down indiscriminate fire onto the Security Forces and lobbed grenades upon them. Own troops swiftly retaliated with accurate fire and immediately evacuated the civilians to a safer zone to ensure their safety. Thereafter, employing co-ordinated and well-rehearsed battle drills, the Security Forces neutralised the two terrorists. One AK series rifle, one Pistol and other warlike stores were recovered from the encounter area. As per JKP records, both of the neutralised terrorists belonged to LeT and have been identified as Yasir Ahmad Wani, a resident of Wangund, Anantnag and Rayees Manzoor, a resident of Hir Pora, Shopian.
