LISTEN TO FAROOQ
There is no harm in listening to what National Conference (NC) President and Member of Parliament from Srinagar constituency, Dr Farooq Abdullah has to say about containing the violence which currently has become a headache for the government and source of fear psychosis for the common man in the Valley. The government should understand that the NC patron is a seasoned politician and there is weight in his suggestion to have an All Party Meeting on the issue of recent spurt in targeted killings as people are being killed on a regular basis with no sign of things coming under control. The government will lose nothing by going for an All Party Meeting but there are chances that something positive may come out of this proposed meeting as is suggested by the former chief minister and NC leader Dr Farooq Abdullah. It is pertinent to mention that the NC leader has pitched for the All Party Meeting to discuss ways and means to put an end to the civilian killings in Jammu and Kashmir. Farooq’s assertion that such issues cannot be dealt with forces and police though is not right fully but of course there is some credence in the point and under present critical situation in Valley government can go for the aforesaid meeting to dwell for a long lasting solution to this problem. It is however apparent that Dr Farooq Abdullah’s statement has a tinge of politics in it as he has criticized the government over its claim on normalcy but looking into the seriousness of the issue the government can go for the All Party Meeting as who knows that this could prove as turning point in the situation in J&K and can provide a solution for the targeted killings. There is a need to find means and ways to curb the killings in Jammu and Kashmir and the government should try its level best to end this vicious cycle of violence. The situation also demands quick action because the annual Amarnath Yatra is on cards and such a precarious situation is not good for the UT and the country because anything can happen.
