Court awards 2 years imprisonment in NDPS


JKUT (Jammu), May-30-2022- Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Sanjay Parihar awarded two years imprisonment to one Jasmear Singh in NDPS.

Court after hearing both the sides observed that Accused has been charged for having been found in unauthorised possession of 14 Kg of ” Poppy Straw”, which is a contraband substance, possession where of to the extent of 1 Kg is taken as small quantity whereas possession of 50 Kg is taken as commercial quantity.

It was submitted by the accused that he is resident of Punjab and routinely travelling on the high way as driver and that he kept the aforesaid “Poppy Straw” for his personal use and consumption.

Principal Sessions Judge Jammu Sanjay Parihar after hearing both the sides and gone through the application filed by the accused for confession, observed that accused has pleaded guilty, therefore, commission of offence under section 8/15 NDPS Act to the extent of intermediate quantity of contraband namely “Poppy Straw” is found proved. In view of the mitigating circumstances, the accused is

sentenced to imprisonment for two years and a fine of Rs. 2500/
