Stop Taliban
The experts in defence strategies and those monitoring the terrorism scenario in Jammu and Kashmir had long back speculated that return of Taliban may cause spill over and J&K can face deleterious results of this change of guard in Afghanistan. Though the situation in Valley is in control despite Taliban in seat in Afghanistan for quite some time now but the revelation made by Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane that there was an increase in seizure of arms and ammunition from Afghanistan in Kashmir is startling because when the infiltration is down then how the arms consignments are reaching Kashmir. General Naravane has averred that there is definitely an increase in the number of Afghanistan’s weapons and other equipment especially night-vision devices that security forces are capturing in Kashmir. What is more worrying is the fact that Gen Narvane has also endorsed that there were apprehensions that after Taliban took over Afghanistan last August, the terrorists would be pushed into Kashmir by Pakistan. Although the government at different occasions has affirmed that infiltration has seen a dip, the big question is how and when the arms and ammunition are finding a way to enter India. The situation surely demands foolproof measures as the Government cannot afford to allow the situation to escalate because Pakistan wants the Taliban to satiate its ill-conceived motives and would provide everything to push it into Indian Territory. It is good that the army has all the inputs as the defence force being highly professional knows well how to deal with the situation. There is no doubt that Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan had somehow emboldened Pakistan-based terrorist groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), which are sending mercenaries into Kashmir for over three decades to maintain turmoil and tumult. The recovery of arms and ammunition from Afghanistan in Kashmir is the testimony to the fact that Taliban is not sitting over the matter but is active in exporting terror. Under these conditions, the government should ensure that borders both on surface and in air should be sealed in a failsafe manner to stop terror mongers from entering India or sending consignments of ammunition or narcotics as both are detrimental to the interests of the country.
