BJP slams Opposition leaders over joint statement

New Delhi, April. BJP on Sunday launched a fresh attack on the Opposition leaders, including Congress president Sonia Gandhi, over a joint statement issued by them on the recent violence reported in several states and accused them of doing ‘selective’ politics. “Yesterday, the way in which Sonia Gandhi ji, along with some other leaders of Opposition parties penned a letter, is a matter of concern. Some leaders of Opposition are doing ‘selective’ politics, which is harmful for the country,” BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, while addressing a press conference here. The statement comes a day after 13 Opposition parties, including the Congress, TMC, NCP, DMK, RJD, CPI(M) and NC issued a joint statement, condemning the violence reported in different states and demanded stringent punishment against the perpetrators. They also appealed to people to maintain peace and social harmony. “Sonia ji in the letter mentioned ‘ideology’. Which ideology is behind such violence? The name of this ‘ideology’ which remained the same in the last 70 years is appeasement ideology”, Patra said. On Jahangirpuri violence, the BJP spokesperson said, “We should all wait for the report, as the investigation is going on.” On Saturday, violence broke out between two groups in Jahangirpuri during a procession of Hanuman Jayanti. Delhi Police have arrested 14 people so far in connection with the incident, which left several people injured, including some policemen.
