INDIAN ARMY ORGANISES BADMINTON COMPETITION FOR GIRLS AT KOTRANKA, SAMOTE

Udhampur (J&K) : 11 Feb 2021 : Indian Army organised Badminton Competition for girls at Kotranka. This event was aimed at promoting sports amongst the youth, especially amongst the girls and also to empower the girls of this remote areas to step out and participate. Event was organised from 05 to 10 February 2021 at Irrigation Ground Kotranka, with finals taking place on 10 February 2021, amidst a loud cheering crowd of around 200 local persons. A total of 36 young exuberant girls participated in the tournament. 30 girls for Senior category of the age group between 14 to 18 years and Six girls in junior category of below 14 years. For both categories matches were carried out for Singles and Doubles. The event saw widescale and enthusiastic participation from the girls. Ms Mehak Naseer from Budhal was adjudged as the Best Player of the tournament. Enthusiastic girls competed fierciecly and a tough fight was clearly seen amongst the girls during the finals. In Doubles final for Senior category, team of Mehak Naseer and Mehar Naseer from Budhal won the competition. In Singles finals for Seniors category Ms Saima Naz from Kotranka was the winner. In Doubles final for Junior category Yaseen Kouser and Ms Monica Sharma from Budhal won the competition, whereas in Singles final for Junior category Ms Shaista Kouser from Budhal was the winner. ALL IN ALL THE GIRLS WON HAND IN HAND…BY THEIR EAGER PARTICIPATION. Locals elders, parents and youth lauded the efforts of Indian Army for organising such an event exclusively for the girls and for the youth of the region.  The participants thanked Indian Army for conducting sports events for the girls. Conduct of such sports events will go a long way in further strengthning the existing bonds between Awam and Indian Army as well as promoting a culture of sports and fitness in remote areas of South Pir Panjal Ranges.
