THE STORY SO FAR:

  • Board exams to begin May 4 onward and wrap up by June 10, Education Minister announces
  • Nishank earlier told ANI, “Based on suggestions by parents and schools, we will discuss dates related to CBSE exams on 31st December and end suspense over the board exams. We will try to announce dates for future exams. Right now, we are not considering the option of online exams.
    • The Union Education Minister made it clear that the CBSE Board exams 2021 will not be held before February. Notably, CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Exams have been held in the months of January, February, and March in the past.
    • The CBSE Class 10 and 12 exams are scheduled to be conducted next year through the paper-pen mode. Officials from the CBSE board have clarified that there is no proposal to conduct online exams.

Several schools have already conducted pre-board exams online to keep the students prepared. The CBSE had earlier this month announced that board exams in 2021 will be conducted in written mode and not online.

Schools across the country were closed in March to contain the spread of COVID-19. They were partially reopened in some states from October 15. However, a few states have decided to keep them closed in view of a spike in the number of infections.

The board exams this year had to be postponed mid-way in March. They were later cancelled and the results announced on the basis of an alternative assessment scheme.
