A minor allegedly jumped into river Jehlum to end his life in apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir, official sources said on Thursday.
They said 12-year-old Shahid Nazir jumped into river Jehlum at Ahadbab crossing in apple township of Sopore in Baramulla district after informing his parents on Wednesday evening. However, people present in the area immediately jumped into the river but could not save the minor. Later, his family members besides police and SDRF personnel joined the rescue operation which was stopped due to darkness.
However, this morning rescue operation was again resumed to retrieve the body of the minor. It was not immediately clear why the minor took this extreme step.
Police has registered a case and initiated investigation.
