Coronavirus: J-K reports 55-year-old woman’s death, toll rises to 36

A woman suffering from COVID-19 died in Kashmir, taking the coronavirus toll in Jammu and Kashmir to 36, officials said on Friday.

A 55-year-old woman from Batamaloo died at Srinagar’s Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital on Thursday evening within an hour of hospitalisation.

“She came with a complaint of high fever and died within one hour of her admission,” said medical superintendent of SMHS Hospital Dr Nazir Choudhary.

Her sample for coronavirus was collected, which tested positive late Thursday night, Choudhary said.

So far 36 people have died of or with COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir—32 in Kashmir and four in Jammu.

Srinagar district has reported nine COVID-19 deaths, the highest in any district in J-K, followed by 7 in Baramulla, Anantnag five, Kulgam four, Shopian three, Jammu and Budgam two each, and Udhampur, Kupwara, and Bandipora one each.

Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday reported the highest single-day spike coronavirus cases, 285, taking the total caseload of UT to 3,142.

The official bulletin revealed that out of 285 cases 49 were reported from Kulgam, Shopian 35, Baramulla 29, Anantnag 27, Srinagar and Udhampur 25 each, Kupwara 19, Bandipora 15, Pulwama 14, Jammu 11, Rajouri 6, Kishtwar 5, Ganderbal 4, Doda, Kathua, Samba and Raesi three each.

On Friday, two doctors and a cameraman with national network tested positive for the contagion.
