The posthumous publication of S. Ujagar Singh Mehak and edited by his son BP Singh was released by Mehak’s octogenarian wife Smt Mohinder Kaur at his home among the family members. It may be recalled that Ujagar Singh Mehak, the face of Punjabi literature in Jammu&Kashmir was considered one of the most creative, talented and inspiring writers who authored nearly 20 books including ‘Chanan De Kande’ which became a cult in sixties. He was awarded twice by the academy in addition to profuse recognition he received in and outside the state for his hallmark contributions in the field and literature and journalism. It is worth recalling that Mehak edited well recognised Punjabi monthly ‘Chardi Saddi’ in the 90’s which became a household name in the Punjabi knowing population in J&K for its interesting and intellectually rich contents.
Talking to the this correspondent,BPSingh, who has edited this book said ‘Kal Da Sapna’ has 15 well-crafted poems along with line sketches to add to the children’s interest. This book has come at time when children’s literature is becoming obsolete from the book shelves and their interest in literature is receding due to their increasing interest in electronic gadgets andthere is dire need to reverse this trend, saidBP Singh.
Mr BP Singh said that this is third posthumous publication of Mr. Mehak which they were planning to release in a big way but realising the big bang release as uncertain due to continuous lockdown and uncertainty over the gatherings, we decided to follow a sombre way of releasing this book at home itself.
Mrs Mohinder Kaur who herself is a keen literature enthusiast has appealed to the parents to ensure that their children to read this book and if they are not familiar with the script, at leastspare some time to read and make them listen. This will help inculcate the habit of reading books.
