UNWANTED CRITICISM

With central government coming out with domicile rules for newly carved out Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, several political outfits have raised apprehension that the new set-up after implementation of these rules will largely affect the interests of residents of erstwhile State of J&K with alarming rise in joblessness for them and also with regard to land security. Leaving apart the political interests of the aforesaid parties, what is more important is the fact that government at the centre has conveyed at several occasions about its conviction to integrate J&K in real sense with rest of the country without any prejudice or discrimination and the step of defining domicile eligibility for J&K UT is more or less a step in the same direction. It is the time for J&K residents to come out of protection of escutcheon and face the world with guts and glory showing everyone that they are not people of lesser gods and can match the steps immaculately with their counterparts living in other parts of country.  Creating an atmosphere of dismay and disbelief by spreading canards on the issue will lead the people of Union Territory to nowhere demoralizing and even disenchanting the young people as if they have lost a battle of their life. Rather, the political parties critical to the move should have asked the people especially youth to gear up and adapt themselves to the new and changing circumstances and contribute as much as they can in the development and growth of country. The skepticism against central government’s intent at this juncture when it has apparently put in all its resources for the peace, progress and prosperity of people of J&K is utterly pointless and should not be given air to propagate and demoralize the population. It is rather a move to give a fair chance to each and every citizen of India to compete and secure a job in J&K without any hanky-panky.  Another community which in particular will get chance of fair play after over 70 years of independence is West Pakistan Refugees as the conditions before abrogation of provisions of Article 370, precluded them from opting for jobs and own a property in J&K.
