Adv. Purnima Sharma, Deputy Mayor, JMC conducts Anti-plastic drive at Bahu Fort Temple, Ward No. 47-48.

Adv. Purnima Sharma, Deputy Mayor, JMC conducted surprise inspection against plastic bags at Bahu Fort area in view of the upcoming Navratras Festival. The major objective of the anti plastic drive was to encourage the use of bags made out of Jute and cloth instead of plastic.
During the anti- plastic drive, Adv. Purnima Sharma along with the Secretary JMC and Enforcement staff of JMC inspected all the shops in the market of Bahu Fort Temple.
Illegal plastic bags were ceased from various shops and fines were imposed against the defaulters during the drive. Also, It was noted  that most of the shops and traders there were already circulating environment friendly cloth bags and paper bags.
After the drive, Deputy Mayor addressing the locals and shopkeepers said that plastics harm the environment in numerous ways. When these bags are used up and thrown, they litter the streets and block the drains and when burned, these release toxic chemicals and contaminate area. Our main aim is to transform Jammu into a plastic free city, for which anti plastic drive was launched and also the public are being sensitised about the ill effects of plastics. Hence, with the aim of raising awareness against the use of polythene bags, JMC periodically carries out anti plastic drives in Jammu City and also distribute environment friendly cloth bags among the shopkeepers and residents so that plastic bags can be replaced.

Ram Khajuria, Enforcement Inspector also accompanied the drive along with Deputy Mayor.
