Civil society has to play a bigger role in the changed J&K scenario: Harsh

Accusing the political leadership of Jammu of demonstrating political cowardice in the face of “rule of whim” being run in the state by “an authoritarian regime”, Mr. Harsh Dev Singh JKNPP Chairman and former Minister today appealed the civil society to rise to the occasion so as to fill the gaps in effective representation of people of the dogra land facing crisis of identity and culture. The recent developments in the state have created uncertainty and fear in the minds of the people who are made to compromise with their rights as free citizens under the garbs of national interests, said Singh. Can anyone be allowed to destroy the freedoms that our ancestors/dogra warriors fought to defend? questioned Singh. “Not only were restrictions imposed upon unfettered exercise of constitutional guarantees but Jammu region continued to be disregarded despite it having overwhelmingly supported the abrogation of Art 370 and allied provisions. And while Jammu continued to be neglected and taken for granted even after Art 370 abrogation, Kashmir continued to receive priority attention at the cost of the former. It was deplorable that majority of Jammu based leaders were shamelessly watching the developments  with cold criminal silence and cowardly submitting before all dictatorial moves of powers that be”, he lamented. He was speaking in an interactive session with prominent notables of Jammu including academicians, lawyers, rtd. civil servants and representatives of various social organizations.

Urging upon the civil society to support pro Jammu parties without any fear, Mr. Singh said that Panthers Party alone was projecting the concerns of the highly aggrieved people of the incarcerated dogra land who felt let down by their mandated leaders.

Prof. R.D. Sharma former Vice Chancellor Jammu University threw light upon the deteriorating standards in political system.
