8 drug peddlers arrested, contraband recovered in Kashmir

 

Police has arrested eight drug peddlers and recovered huge contraband from them in separate places in Kashmir valley.

A police spokesperson said that in Srinagar, three drug peddlers were arrested at a checkpoint established at New Bypass in Nowgam. “300 grams of charas and 250 grams of fukki were recovered from their possession,” he said.

He said drug peddlers were identified as Ramesh Chander, Ravi Kumar and Kaka Ram, all residents of Reasi. “The accused have been shifted to Police Station Nowgam where they remain in custody. Officers have also seized the vehicle used in the peddling of drugs,” he said.

In Budgam, he said police intercepted one person, identified as Gulzar Ahmad Shah, resident of Nagbal Khag, at a checkpoint established near Bus stand Khag, “On his checking, police recovered 380 grams of Charas from his possession,” he said adding the accused was arrested and shifted to Police station Khag, where he remains in custody.

He said three drug peddlers, identified as Manzoor Mir, Tariq Sheikh and Owais Gull, were arrested alongwith contraband in Pampore. “Initial investigation of the case reveals that the trio was involved in selling contraband drugs among the youth in Pampore area,” he said.

In a similar action, he said Ganderbal police arrested a drug peddler identified as Sajad Ahmed Gasi resident of Saloora Ganderbal. “Officers have recovered contraband substance including charas and poppy powder from his possession. He has been shifted to Police Station Ganderbal where he remains in custody. Initial investigation of the case reveals that the accused under the garb of vending vegetables was selling contraband drugs to the youth of the Ganderbal,” the spokesperson said.

He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, adding persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings,” he added.
