Arti Jasrotia and her family was in immense pressure as the latter’s marriage date was drawing close and her father Sudershan Singh did not have sufficient resources even for the basic arrangements of the marriage.
It is rightly said that there are two categories of charitable people: one, the people who did a little and made a great deal of noise; the other, the people who did a great deal and made no noise at all.
Similar is the case of State Marriage Assistance Scheme of Social Welfare department, which has extended handholding to scores of BPL parents at the time of the marriage of daughters. It is one of the finest and kindhearted schemes of the department which needs to be widely publicized to enable maximum people to take the benefits.
Arti’s father came to know about the scheme from his neighbor, working in Social Welfare Department. He informed the family about the State Marriage Assistance Scheme rekindling a new hope in them.
Sharing her experience, Arti said that there are a few formalities, which they met and got the help of Rs 40 thousand from the department without any delay. “It was a great help for us at the time when we were in total despair. The amount helped my father to organize the marriage in smooth and easy way,” she added.
She said that after having the assurance that department will give him the monetary assistance of 40 thousand rupees, she was very relaxed and was able to arrange the marriage function without facing many problems.
She thanked the government for launching these kinds of initiatives for the help of poor and deprived people.
The State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS) is a social assistance scheme to provide financial assistance to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) girls for their marriage. The Scheme as a big boon for poor girls has greatly benefited the deprived section of the society.
