Department of Labour on Friday distributed the education assistance of Rs 1.35 Crore to the Building and Other Construction Workers of Bandipora district during a day-long awareness program.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza handed over the cheque of Rs 1.35 Cr to the J&K Bank officials for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The amount will be disbursed among 2032 labours of the district Bandipora as Education Assistance for their children.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner urged the labours to avail the benefit of various welfare schemes available for the welfare of the labours. He said the government has recently launched a pension scheme for the labour under PM-SYM. He said it is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme for the unorganised workers belonging to the age group of 18-40 years. He said under the scheme each subscriber shall receive minimum assured pension of 3000 per month after attaining the age of 60 years.
While highlighting the benefits of the various welfare and individual benefit schemes, Mirza asked the eligible participants to avail the benefit of schemes. He appealed people especially the unorganised workers and labours to enrol themselves in the scheme launched by the government including PM-SYM. He said there are several other schemes for the labours including compensation in case of injury during work, financial assistance to the kids and other relevant schemes.
During the day long awareness program, officers informed the labours about various schemes available for the welfare of the labours and urged them to enrol themselves in the said schemes.
