In compliance with the directions of the Member Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Udhampur organized a training programme for the newly engaged Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of the District.
The programme was held in the Conference Hall-District Court Complex, under the guidance of Chairperson DLSA (Principal District & Sessions Judge) Kalpana Revo and under the overall supervision of Secretary DLA Sumati Sharma.
The Secretary DLSA conducted the training and outlined the role and responsibilities of the PLVs in extending legal awareness, identifying persons in need of legal assistance and facilitating access to services provided by the DLSA and affiliated agencies. She emphasized the importance of proactive community engagement and accurate reporting to ensure timely intervention for vulnerable individuals.
The PLVs shall receive ongoing support and supervision from DLSA Udhampur through capacity-building sessions and periodic reviews. Their duties will include conducting legal awareness camps, assisting with intake and documentation, guiding beneficiaries on eligibility for legal services and referring cases to appropriate authorities.
The DLSA reiterated the need for PLVs to maintain strict confidentiality, demonstrate sensitivity when dealing with undertrial and indigent clients and adhere to ethical standards while performing their duties.
The Authority expressed confidence that the newly engaged PLVs will play a vital role in widening the reach of legal aid, enhancing access to justice and supporting the fair administration of legal processes across the district.
