
The historic three-day Shiv-Parvati Moungri Mela concluded today with great religious fervour, enthusiasm and traditional gaiety at Sar Dabar in Tehsil Moungri of District Udhampur.
More than 60,000 devotees and visitors from different faiths thronged the mela site during the three-day event, reflecting the spirit of communal harmony and cultural unity.
On the concluding day, Member Legislative Assembly Udhampur West Pawan Kumar Gupta attended the function as the chief guest, while Mela Officer Arushi Sabharwal presided over the programme.
While addressing the gathering, the chief guest appreciated the organisers and district administration for successfully conducting such traditional fairs in far-flung areas of the district. He described these fairs as symbols of the region’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, adding that such events not only attract tourists but also contribute significantly towards the socio-economic development of rural areas.
Highlighting the importance of sports activities organised during the mela, the MLA said that sports play a vital role in the overall personality development of youth and help channelise their energy in a positive direction.
The concluding day also witnessed captivating cultural performances presented by artists of the Information Department Cultural Wing Jammu along with local artists. Cultural troupes from various educational institutions showcased traditional folk dances, songs and cultural presentations depicting the rich traditions and heritage of the area, which received huge appreciation from the audience.
For the smooth and successful conduct of the mela, the District Administration Udhampur had made elaborate arrangements for security, drinking water, power supply, medicare facilities, traffic regulation, additional transport services and adequate stock of essential commodities.
