District Red Cross Committee Srinagar organizes programme at GGHSS Nawa Kadal DC Srinagar highlights significance of Red Cross teams, volunteers supporting needy during emergencies and everyday life through acts of kindness

SRINAGAR MAY 08:- To mark the celebrations of World Red Cross Day-2026, an impressive function was organized by District Red Cross Committee Srinagar at Government Girls Higher Secondary School(GGHSS) Nawa Kadal here today.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, who is also the Chairman District Red Cross Committee was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Besides, Additional District Development Commissioner, Rifat Aftab Qureshi, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Adil Fareed, IAS Probationer, Alfred Thomas, SDM. East, Zubair Ahmad, Chief  Education Officer, Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din, District Social Welfare Officer, Mohammad Yousuf, Tehsildar Eidgah, Mohammad Iqbal Zargar, Dy CMO, Dr Farhana, Principal GGHS Nawa Kadal School, Dr Be Nazir Chalku, Dy CEO, Anjum Raja, Staff and large number of students were present in the event.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the vital role played by Red Cross teams and volunteers in providing timely assistance to the needy during emergencies, disasters and other humanitarian situations. He said the spirit of humanity, compassion and voluntary service reflected by Red Cross volunteers serves as an inspiration for society.

The DC emphasized that Red Cross volunteers continue to extend support to vulnerable sections of society not only during emergencies but also in everyday life through various acts of kindness and humanitarian service. He appreciated the dedication and commitment of Red Cross workers and urged students to actively participate in humanitarian and social welfare activities for the betterment of society, particularly during any calamity or exigent situation.

The DC further emphasized that focusing on the mental health and well-being of students is equally important to properly channelize their talent and potential. He advised students not to come under pressure or indulge in overthinking and instead continue their studies in a positive and healthy atmosphere.

The DC appreciated the School administration and the District Red Cross Committee for organizing the meaningful programme aimed at promoting humanitarian values among the younger generation.

During the programme, the Deputy Commissioner felicitated students and handed over appreciation certificates for their participation and achievements.

On the occasion, awareness was also generated among students regarding the importance of humanitarian values, social responsibility and voluntary service. The speakers highlighted the significance of World Red Cross Day and underscored the invaluable contributions of Red Cross volunteers across the globe.

The programme also featured cultural performances and awareness activities presented by students, reflecting the themes of humanity, peace and service to mankind.
