Market checking drives intensified across Kupwara during Holy Month of Ramadhan

KUPWARA, FEBRUARY 21: In view of the ongoing holy month of Ramadhan, on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, extensive market checking drives were conducted across various tehsils of district Kupwara.

 

These drives aimed to ensure strict monitoring of prices and quality of essential commodities.

 

In Kupwara town, Tehsildar Kupwara, Niyaz Ahmad Bhat, led a comprehensive inspection team comprising officials from the Food Safety Department, Police, and Municipality. The team thoroughly checked multiple shops and establishments for displayed rate lists, adherence to prescribed prices, quality standards, and regulatory compliance.

 

During inspection, expired stock of vegetable oil was seized and destroyed on the spot to protect public health. A fine of ₹3,000 was also imposed on violators.

 

Similar drives covered Handwara Sub-Division, including Handwara town, Magam, Langate, and Zachaldara, where fines totaling ₹1,650 in Zachaldara and ₹3,800 in Handwara town were recovered.

 

Inspections extended to Doniwari and Cherkote in Lolab Sub-Division, as well as border Tehsil Karnah, ensuring compliance even in remote areas.

 

Traders have been directed to maintain quality standards, prominently display rate lists, avoid hoarding or selling expired/substandard items, and refrain from the overcharging.

 

Market checking drives will continue in the coming days to uphold fair trade practices, protect consumers, and ensure availability of quality essentials during Ramadhan.
