
SRINAGAR FEBRUARY 17: In connection with forthcoming Holy month of Ramzaan ul Mubarak, Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo on Tuesday chaired a comprehensive meeting of District and Sectoral Officers here at Meeting Hall of DC Office Complex to review preparedness and finalize arrangements to ensure smooth and hassle-free observance of the auspicious month across the district
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz, Superintendent of Police, Umar Shah, Chief Planning Officer, Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Superintending Engineer R&B, Shabir Ahmad, Superintending Engineer SMC, Sajad Ahmad Kawoosa, SDM, West, Irfan Bahadur, SDM East, Zubair Ahmad, Executive Engineers of KPDCL, PHE, SMC, R&B, all Tehsildars, Senior Officers from all concerned Departments and representatives from J&K Wakf Board.
At the outset, the DC sought a detailed action plan from the concerned departments regarding arrangements related to electricity, water supply, essential commodities, sanitation, transport, parking and medical facilities during the holy month.
The DC directed the KPDCL engineers to ensure uninterrupted power supply, particularly during Sehri and Iftari hours. The PHE Department was asked to make proactive arrangements for adequate drinking water supply across all areas of the district.
Similarly, the FCS&CA Department was instructed to ensure sufficient availability of essential commodities, including ration and LPG, and to maintain government-approved rates in the markets. He stressed the deployment of special teams under the supervision of SDM East and SDM West to conduct market inspections to curb profiteering and hoarding and to maintain quality standards of food items.
The DC also instructed the Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, AD FCS&CA and Tehsildars to keep strict vigil on the quality of chicken, meat, milk, vegetables, fruits and other daily consumables to prevent adulteration in Srinagar markets.
The SMC authorities were directed to conduct special sanitation and cleanliness drives in all areas and prominent Masjids and Shrines, besides instructions were given that all defunct streetlights be restored on war footing in all areas.
Regarding road repairs and filling of potholes, the DC asked concerned departments to immediately identify and address spots requiring urgent attention, especially roads leading to major venues of religious congregations.
He further directed that adequate public transport arrangements be ensured during evening hours for the convenience of the public. The Health Department was instructed to make necessary medical arrangements as per past practice throughout the district.
During the meeting, the DC was apprised of the arrangements being made by the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board for smooth observance of religious obligations during the holy month, when thousands of devotees are expected to visit shrines.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner extended his warm greetings to the people on the commencement of the holy month of Ramzan-ul-Mubarak.
