Jammu-Srinagar National Highway partially opened for one-way traffic

 

Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has partially opened for one way traffic and only stranded vehicles in Ramban and Banihal are being allowed to cross over to Kashmir Valley.

Due to heavy rains & fresh snowfall along the Jawahar Tunnel and Banihal Qazigund stretch and landslides at multiple places between Ramban and Banihal sector, Jammu Srinagar National highway remained closed for traffic since yesterday. According to Traffic Police sources, some shooting stones had fallen on the road near Panthial and Mom Passi resulting in the closure of the National Highway.

Around 800 trucks were stranded near Jawahar Tunnel and about 100 trucks were stranded between Panthial and Samadhi Modh and 50 LMVs were stranded in Ramban. Due to rains, landslides struck the highway at Anokhifal, Marog, and Battery Chasma between Banihal-Ramban stretches. Meanwhile, a SPO of J&K Police namely Pervaiz Ahmed Malik of Runigam, Banihal was crushed to death by a truck last night while on Traffic Police duty at Shabanbass, when he tried to stop the truck moving ahead due to the closure of the Highway. The fleeing Truck driver was nabbed after a 3 Kms chase.
