Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter Iltija Mufti has called Republic Day celebrations in the country “hypocrisy”.
Mufti, whose politician mother Mehbooba has been in detention since August, posted a tweet on her mother’s Twitter handle saying: “The hypocrisy of Republic Day celebrations by BJP led government that’s wilfully desecrated & violated Indian Constitution isn’t lost on anyone. Meanwhile Kashmir witnesses another shutdown & suspension of cellular services. Splendid integration indeed”.
Mufti’s mother, Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti, was one of several politicians in Kashmir who were detained after the central government read down Article 370 of the Indian Constitution—a provision tht gave special status to the state. Her daughter has since been posting tweets from her mother’s account.
