Rajouri: An army officer was among two killed in an ongoing encounter in the Kalakote area of Rajouri district on Wednesday.
Official sources told that an army major and a soldier lost their lives in an anti-militancy operation in the Baji Maal forest area of Rajouri.
The officer said the exchange of firing is going on, and more reinforcement of a mixture of forces has been called to the area.
Official sources further said that two militants are believed to be trapped in the woods.
Pertinently, Rajouri and Poonch, once peaceful, have recently become hotspots for militancy with numerous encounters resulting in the killings of militants and security personnel.
An official told that many militants were killed while attempting to infiltrate from across the border.
He said there is a constant endeavour to disrupt peace in Jammu and Kashmir, but our alert security forces have thwarted every such attempt, improving the security situation. As a result, development and tourism have gained pace in recent times,” he added. (AGENCIES)
