1002 terrorists killed in five years, infiltration declined in three years: Report

Jammu: In the last five years in Jammu and Kashmir, between 2018 and 2022, 1002 terrorists have been killed by security forces. According to the annual report of the Home Ministry, 308 security forces personnel and 209 civilians have also been killed during the same period. There have been 626 encounter incidents during this period. The report said that the state has borne the brunt of terrorist and separatist activities for the last three decades with cross-border support. 257 terrorists were killed in 2018, 157 in 2019, 221 in 2020, 180 in 2021 and 187 in 2022. According to the report, terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is related to incidents of infiltration from IB and LOC. There were 136 incidents in 2017, 143 in 2018, 141 in 2019, 51 in 2020, 34 in 2021 and 14 in 2022.

16 thousand crore released for security related expenses

Rs 16 thousand crore has been released by the Home Ministry for security related expenses in Jammu and Kashmir. This includes expenses related to security as well as relief and rehabilitation. According to the annual report of the Home Ministry, the Center has taken this step to make paramilitary forces immediately available as per requirement. From 1989 to 2022, the Center has reimbursed Rs 10528.72 crore on security related expenditure (police) and Rs 5348.68 crore on relief and rehabilitation. In 2022, Rs 308.98 crore has been given as reimbursement to the police and Rs 198.62 crore to the state government for relief and rehabilitation. Due to terrorism in the state, a special scheme was started in 1989-90 under which 90 percent of the expenses on police head and 100 percent on relief and rehabilitation head are reimbursed.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has announced to increase the admission capacity of MBBS courses in Jammu and Kashmir from 500 to 1100. The central government has spent Rs 881 crore on upgrading health institutions here. Here out of 97.17 lakh eligible beneficiaries, 78.12 lakh have been verified and 78.06 lakh have received golden cards. Establishment of seven new government medical colleges and 15 nursing colleges is underway in the state.
