After stern action against the defaulter politicians including a former chief minister of erstwhile state of J&K, the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) has now carried out disconnection drive against the willful defaulters including commercial connection holders and industrial units. It is unfortunate that there is a big number of electricity consumers in the UT who take thing for granted and never show any concern towards clearing electricity dues leading to JPDCL’s befitting action. Though reports have averred that more such actions are in pipeline but looking into the gravity of the problem, it is necessary to cut the connection of every defaulter whether commercial or domestic or anyone else because using power without paying the tariff is not justified at all. It is pertinent to mention that Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) has disconnected power connections of more than 100 industrial and commercial consumers whose arrears run into several lakhs of rupees. More big industrial houses which are also in the list of chronic defaulters will be taken to task in the next few days. It is agonizing that despite LG’s administration extending top priority to the industrial units in J&K especially with regard to providing uninterrupted power supply, those running the same never paid any heed to clear their pending bills which have crossed several marks and surmounting limit upto lakhs of rupees. The action taken against such chronic defaulters was the need of the hour and the government should not spare any of the defaulters as these are the black-sheep behind the power crisis in J&K. No excuse is valid when the people have utilized the power. It is a strange attitude of people in J&K because when time comes to pay bills they simply come up with thousands excuses, which is something to be dealt with extreme sternness as this is one of the main factors behind power outage in the UT. The situation reportedly is so grim that there are industrial units in J&K which had not cleared their bills crossing several crore rupees thus forcing the aforesaid corporation to take strict action like disconnection of lines.
