SIGNIFICANT MOVE
In J&K, it is not only the development part which has been given fillip under the BJP Government led by PM Narendra Modi but there are number of other things which are being addressed in a perfect manner giving due rights to the different sections of society and in the same context, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has come up with a new endeavour by giving a green signal to constitution of an independent Child Rights Commission, which could have never become a reality if the Modi Government didn’t come to power at the centre. It is pertinent to mention that reports coming out have confirmed that the proposed Child Rights Commission will be headed by a Chairperson besides having minimum two members. This is a significant move as far as providing justice to the children of the Union Territory of J&K is concerned and therefore the government deserves kudos for giving a thought towards this vital aspect which remained unaddressed since long. It is likely that the aforesaid Commission will deal with the complaints related to exploitation, harassment and atrocities on the children and the protection of their rights. What is more important is the fact that rules framed for the aforesaid Commission shall comply with the International child rights standards ensuring rights which are available to children across the world. The Commission shall function full time as an independent and autonomous body. The upcoming Commission will not only deal with the complaints related to violation of child rights but will also analyze existing law policy and practice to assess compliance with convention on the rights of child, undertake inquiries and produce reports on any aspect of policy and practice affecting children, etc to make sure that they comply with international child rights standards and many others, ensuring a contented and stress-free life for children. As the process is underway the children and the society should be imparted awareness about the provisions and powers of the aforesaid Commission besides its significance so that people should not take things for granted and change their attitude towards children giving them due respect and rights which they deserve as per law and social ethos.
