The medal tally of Jammu and Kashmir at the 36th National Games 2022 in Gujarat remained below average making it necessary for the stakeholders to add more zeal and hone the skills of the sportspersons of the UT in a more dexterous manner. With lone gold medal in Wushu and eleven other medals J&K was slotted at number 27, which could be categorized as a abysmal performance with lots of scope to improve in the field. There is no doubt that the sports arena in J&K has seen several setbacks in the past due to nepotism, dearth of funds, lack of facilities and edifice, and above all the over three decades of turmoil and turbulence due to Pakistan infested terrorism and the proxy war which the rogue nation has waged across the region using all its might and resources. It is however good that after the change of guard at the centre and PM Narendra Modi taking up the reins of the country, things have started changing in J&K and there is a sea change infrastructure meant for grooming the sportspersons in the last couple of years. As things need time to change, so do the sportspersons and the sports edifice. One thing is sure that at present sportspersons in J&K are being provided with adequate facilities and incentives also because the new sports policy is already in vogue and it is likely that the future of sports will be bright enough and people will join the tirade in large numbers as already there are hundreds of youths who are currently trying their luck in this field by raising their agility through hard practice schedules during mornings and evenings every day. Besides six medals in Wushu, J&K has secured medals in K1-Slalom, Canoeing, Fencing and Gymnastics. Surely, J&K has to do a lot to secure an impressive position in the next national games or in other platforms as what has been achieved till date is too little. The support which the J&K government is providing to the sporting fraternity is extraordinary but there is dire need to do more and also take help from the experts in the field living in other parts of the country and even abroad because there is nothing to feel shy about taking help from renowned sportspersons to improve the performance in the coming time.
