The mortal remains of soldier Sukhjinder Singh, who sacrificed his life while serving the country in Uttarakhand, reached Jammu on Thursday morning. The last rites of the sacrificed soldier were performed with military honors on Thursday morning at Suchetgarh in RSpura, bordering Jammu district.
Sukhjinder Singh of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry had sacrificed his life while rescuing his injured comrade who was hit by a landslide during patrolling between Bhairav Ghati and Nelang on the Indo-China border in Uttarakhand. His body was brought to Jammu on Thursday morning by road from Harsil in Uttarkashi.
Thousands of moist eyes gave the last ritual to the sacrificer at Suchetgarh. Thousands of people gathered to pay their last respects to the sacrifice. On this occasion, senior officers of the Army’s Tiger Division along with the officers of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry also paid floral tributes to their martyr. Lt Gen Yogendra Dimri, GOC-in-C of the Army’s Sun Command, officers and jawans of the command also appreciated Sukhjinder Singh’s valor on Monday.
The Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr Jitendra Singh had also assisted in bringing Sukhjinder Singh’s body home soon. Dr Jitendra Singh on Wednesday talked to Uttarkashi Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Ruhela on the phone and insisted on sending the body home soon. In this regard, his office was also in touch with Paramjit Singh, father of the sacrificer.
Sukhjinder Singh, a soldier of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, had joined the army only two years ago. There was an atmosphere of sadness in the RSpura area after receiving the news of his sacrifice. Those friends of Sukhjinder Singh had also reached the funeral on Thursday, who had worked hard together to join the army. Sukhjinder Singh was very excited to join the army. In such a situation, when the holiday came, he used to tell tales of military life to his friends. On Thursday, seeing his friend draped in the tricolor, his childhood friends were crying.
