Senior National Conference leader and party’s Provincial President Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta has flayed the Union Government for its decision to impose GST on essential commodities used regularly by the common people of this nation. Questioning the BJP Govt as to whether these are the ‘Achhe Din’ promised by it, he demanded immediate roll back of the same especially in the interest of poor and indigent people.
In a statement issued to media here today, Rattan Lal Gupta said that by rising GST on items like pulses, milk, curd, rice, etc used daily by the people of all hues, it has been proved that the BJP Govt at the Centre is hell bent upon pursuing the anti-people policies thus multiplying the miseries of the common people especially the poor and indigent. He asserted that this is happening for the first time in the history of this nation that government is directly hitting the common man with the heavy burden of taxes on essential commodities breaking their spine in the already existing scenario of sky rocketing prices and unprecedented inflation.
The Provincial President castigated the decision of Union Govt to impose 12 per cent tax on hotel rooms with rent below Rs1000. He said that this too is going to adversely impact the poor people besides whitewashing the efforts in the direction of promoting tourism especially in Jammu and Kashmir where tourism forms a substantial chunk of Jammu and Kashmir economy with many people including youth dependant on this sector. “Is this the way to promote tourism in the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory where people are struggling to come out of the traumatic situation due to terrorism of over three decades amidst rising prices and inflation?” he questioned.
