JKCA REJUVENATING CRICKET
Without going into the dark era of cricket in J&K for which probing agencies are on job to find the fault lines and unravel the truth behind siphoning of crores of rupees meant for the promotion of game, there is need for the people of J&K to cherish the dawn or the new era of this game where transparency and accountability are the top priorities and fairness in aspects ruling the roost. The time after the Board of Control for Cricket in India
(BCCI) has formed a three-member administrative sub-committee to look after the affairs of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association can be considered as the renaissance period for cricket in J&K because during this phase the game has seen tremendous change with transparency becoming the new norm and corruption going out for once and all. The aforesaid sub-committee headed by Brigadier Anil Gupta, along with advocate Sunil Sethi and former cricketer Mithun Manhas is looking after the cricket body till the time the elections will be held. The contours of the game started changing from the day one, when Brig Anil Gupta took charge of the aforesaid committee as he being dynamic administrator having distinguished career in armed forces made drastic changes in the way the JKCA used to work with truthfulness and integrity taking the lead, and corruption and discrimination becoming the things of the past. This paved way for rejuvenating cricket in a big way as blue-eyed who earlier used to rule the roost simply went into hibernation and the talented getting the opportunities to show their agility and prove their mettle in the game. The JKCA under the realms of illustrious members of the aforesaid sub-committee has now turned out to be the vibrant body which is fair enough to sieve the talent and give fair chance to anyone and everyone who want to try their hand in cricket. The biggest step which Brig Anil Gupta took as mentors of talented cricketers in J&K was the launch of JKCA website, which is interactive and possesses many useful features including significant information about the JKCA players, various JKCA teams, schedule of trials and selections, notices regarding recruitment as well as annual accounts, and balance sheets of the cricket body besides invitation of tenders pertaining to JKCA and all future announcements for conduct of trials, selections etc will be displayed on the website for universal viewership. One can say that since the sub-committee has assumed the charge of the affairs of JKCA under the dynamic headship of Brig Anil Gupta it has been the cricketing body’s endeavour to bring in transparency and accountability not only in the selection process but also in the normal functioning. Besides, Brig Gupta being the experienced administrator has been steering the JKCA phenomenally and there is no doubt that under his supervision the liaison between UT’s cricketing body and BCCI is precisely perfect just because of the dexterousness of the man heading the Association of the cricketers in J&K.
