CONTAINING BOVINE SMUGGLING

The people in J&K especially the Jammu province must have noticed that the graph of bovine smuggling has plummeted considerably after the change of status of J&K from state to Union Territory and abrogation of Article 370 in the year 2019 as earlier big numbers of animals were smuggled to different parts of the Valley as cases used to tell the sordid state of affairs. Soon after the transformation of J&K into a Union Territory, the strict action was taken against those indulging in smuggling of bovines and today the scenario is totally different with bovine smuggling cases coming down considerably. Of course there are handful of aforesaid cases which are being reported nowadays as there are hardcore criminals who are not willing to mend their ways despite government taking stringent action. The days are not far when these smugglers will also be controlled as government is keen to eradicate this menace from the UT of J&K once and for all. In this context, District Police Samba has thwarted an attempt to smuggle bovines by rescuing 14 animals and arresting two bovine smugglers in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Samba. The government has issued standing instructions for action against those indulging in misadventure of this kind and that is the reason behind zero tolerance against the menace of bovine smuggling. It is pertinent to mention that Jammu and Kashmir Police has launched an exclusive operation Kamdhenu to tighten noose around bovine smugglers and has achieved success to a large extent in containing the smuggling of cattle towards Valley. Earlier also huge number of bovines were recovered from the Jammu Srinagar national highway giving a strong signal to the smugglers to mend their ways as the government will not allow this illegal activity to continue unabated. The Jammu and Kashmir Police has taken commendable steps in the past to stop this menace and is at forefront to ensure that not even a single bovine can be ferried to Valley without permission. It is necessary that people should also help the police in catching the culprits in this very particular issue as common masses can act as ears and eyes of the cops.
