CRITICISM UNFAIR

The way the political parties in J&K are criticizing the work done by the Delimitation Commission, and some even alleging that it is dancing on the tunes of ruling party-BJP is sheer injustice towards an independent body which is toiling hard to provide justice to people of the UT. It is pertinent to mention that the Delimitation Commission headed by Justice (Retired) Ranjana Prakash Desai held interaction with number of political parties, organizations, representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and individuals in Jammu but the response of Congress and few other entities was quite unfortunate because the Congress leaders simply walked-out of the venue of Commission’s meeting alleging that the panel hasn’t invited them as a political party but allowed some of its leaders to have personal interaction. The leaders of the Congress Party should understand that by walking out in such a unruly manner will resolve no issue as they missed the chance to put before the delimitation panel the concerns and objections of the party but the leadership opted for a convenient route wherein they simply left the venue without projecting any of their concerns showing the people that they have nothing to say. This is unwarranted because had they projected some demands or objections and subsequently the reaction or response of the aforesaid panel whether negative or positive would have given them opportunity to discuss the matter publicly thus making a connect with the people but with nonchalant behaviour the party leadership has showcased its immaturity and pettiness. There is not an iota of doubt that the delimitation panel has done a tremendous job and came out with its draft proposal after over two years of hard work. It is natural that there might have been certain shortcomings and by sharing the draft document publically, the aforesaid panel has given chance to each and every entity in the UT to raise voice and share their concerns, which will be looked after with open-mindedness but the path adopted by the Congress is totally unfair as far as credibility of the aforesaid panel is concerned. Under no means there is a chance that the Commission will not pay heed to the suggestions and issues shared by the different parties before preparing its final report. Hopefully the changes which the Delimitation Commission will propose will help the UT of J&K to give due representation to people to fulfill their aspirations.
