DB grants two months’ time to file Draft Revised Jail Manual

JKUT (Jammu), September-28-2021-( JNF):-   In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking farming of new Jail Manual for J&K, Division Bench of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court Comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul grants two months time to file Draft Revised Jail Manual of J&K UT and Ladakh UT.

          When the PIL Came-up for hearing, Division Bench observed that PIL is regarding the amendment of the Jail Manual and to bring it in consonance with the Jail Manual of Tihar Jail.

          DB further observed that it appears that till date nothing has been brought on record regarding upgradation and finalization of the Jail Manual on behalf of the UT of J&K.

          ASGI T. M. Shamsi, appearing for the UT of Ladakh submits that his status report is already on record and that in the UT of Ladakh the Jail Manual is in the process of revision and finalization. He prays for and is allowed two months’ time to place the Draft Revised Jail Manual of Ladakh before the Court.

          Sr. AAG BA Dar appearing for the UT of J&K submits that the Jail Manual of the J&K has been revised and that it will be place before the Court on the next date.
