Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh and other senior CRPF and police officers on Wednesday paid rich tributes to Personnel Security Officer (PSO) who was martyred after killing a militant of The Resistance Front (TRF) while saving a BJP local leader in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal Tuesday evening.
A wreath laying ceremony was held at District Police Lines (DPL) at Srinagar, where floral tributes were paid to PSO constable Mohammad Altaf Hussain, a resident of down town Srinagar.
DGP Singh paying rich tributes to Hussain said the department is proud of such gallant jawans.
Mr Singh said TRF was involved in target killing in the valley on the directions from Pakistan and its ISI. He said the militant Shabir, a resident of Pulwama, was killed in retaliatory firing by PSO. Shabir was associated with Reyaz Naiko of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) before joining TRF on the directions from Pak ISI.
The Chinar Corps in a tweet paying tributes to Hussain said “The SPO made the #SupremeSacrifice. #IndianArmy salutes the #professionalism & #bravery of the SPO. Deepest condolences to the bereaved family”.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal Khalil Poswal said BJP worker was fired upon by militants at his village Nunar Ganderbal when he was going to safe cluster at Kangan after spending day with his family. The attack was retaliated by his PSO Hussain, he said adding the militant involved in the attack was killed by PSO, who was also injured. The injured PSO was shifted to hospital where he succumbed.
District vice president Ganderbal of BJP Ghulam Qadir Rather was safe.
A police spokesman said Hussain a resident of Eidgah in down town Srinagar had joined the police department in the year 2011 and was posted with the BJP protected person from last three months. He is survived by parents, wife and one and years old son.
He said J&K Police continues its saga of sacrifices while performing their duties for safety of its people.
