Three shops were sealed in the summer capital, Srinagar, on Friday for violating guidelines to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
Official sources said that surprise checking was conducted by district administration Srinagar in Kokerbazar in the city to ensure that the guidelines issued by authorities were being followed by shopkeepers. “Three shopkeepers were allegedly found violating the guidelines,” they said, adding the officials sealed all the three shops and also imposed fine of over Rs 12,000 on them.
They said that such checking will continue and anyone found guilty of violating the COVID-19 guidelines would be punished.
Shops, business establishments and markets opened on Monday after weeks of restrictions while public transport resumed services nearly after five months in Kashmir valley. Authorities allowed reopening of 50 per cent shops in all markets and resumption of public transport operations from Monday though urged business community and public to strictly follow guidelines to combat COVID-19.
The J&K administration had re-imposed lockdown restrictions in Srinagar from July 13 after a brief period of relaxation, and then in the rest of Kashmir from July 27 following an upward spiral in Covid-19 cases and deaths.
