Eight persons — including four from Srinagar and one each from Budgam, Kulgam, Kupwara and Pulwama — died due to COVID-19 on Sunday, taking the death toll due to the virus in the Union Territory of J&K to 321.
With these deaths, 286 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in 53 days, and 306 people in 67 day in J&K, where 615 new positive cases were detected on Sunday, taking the total number of infected persons to 17920.As many as 61 people, including 57 from Kashmir and four from Jammu, lost their lives due to COVID-19 during last week.
Official sources said that four COVID-19 positive patients — including a 65-year-old man from Safakadal, a 60-year-old man from Bemina, a-60-year-old man from Hawal and a 60-year-old man from Buchpora — died since Sunday evening.
They said the victims include a local National Conference (NC) leader, who died late on Sunday evening at SHMS hospital. “The patient, who was suffering from bilateral pneumonia, was tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday,” they said.
They said other three Srinagar residents died at S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) and were suffering from respiratory problems.
They said a 70-year-old man, a resident of Behipora in Kulgam, was admitted to SKIMS in the wee hours on Monday for respiratory distress. “The patient, who tested positive for COVID-19, died hours after being admitted to the hospital,” they said.
Another patient, a 65-year-old man, a resident of Chadoors in Budgam, was admitted to SKIMS on July 21 for respiratory problem. “The patient, who tested positive for COVID-19, died at the hospital on Monday,” they said.
They said an 85-year-old man, a resident of Samboora in Pulwama, died at SMHS hospital. “The patient, who tested positive for COVID-19, was suffering form respiratory problem,” they said.
“A 59-year-old man, a resident of Handwara in Kupwara, died on Sunday afternoon. “The patient, who had tested positive for COVID-19, was suffering from respiratory distress,” they added.
With these fatalities, the death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 18 each in Kupwara and Pulwama. Srinagar is the worst affected district in J&K in terms of causalities with 92 deaths, followed by Baramulla with 63 deaths. The death toll rose to 23 in Budgam while the fatalities stood at 21 in Anantnag. As many as 20 people have lost their lives to the disease in Shopian.
The number of deaths stands at 27 in Kulgam. Nine people have lost their lives in Bandipora. Ganderbal district recorded sixth death due to COVID-19 on Friday.
Ten districts of Jammu have reported 23 fatalities while 298 people have lost their lived due to COVID-19 in ten districts of Kashmir.
Sixty five people lost their lives between July 13 and July 19 due to COVID-19 in J&K. As many as 48 patients — including 10 persons from Baramulla, 12 from Srinagar, six from Kulgam, three from Anantnag, Kupwara and Budgam, Jammu region, two each from Shopian and Ganderbal, one patient each from Pulwama, Bandipora and a BSF jawan — died due to COVID-19 between July 6 and July 12.
As many as 41 people — including nine from Srinagar, 10 from Baramulla, five each from Anantnag, three from Kulgam, Budgam and Shopian, two each from Kupwara and Bandipora, one each from Jammu and Ganderbal — died due to COVID-19 between June 29 and July 5.
