About 28 security force personnel and 17 health workers were among 161 persons, including 115 from Kashmir and 46 from Jammu, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, taking the total number of infected people in the Union Territory of J&K to 4507.
Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to 51 with five persons dying due to COVID-19 on Tuesday in the Union Territory, where 165 positive patients were discharged from hospitals, after being treated successfully.
An official on Wednesday said that 115 more people tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir division, while 46 new cases were reported from Jammu. “Shopian recorded the highest number of 37 new COVID-19 cases, followed by Kulgam with 28 cases,” he said, adding that 19 people tested positive for the infection in Udhampur.
“Kupwara registered 18 new COVID-19 cases,” he said, adding that 12 persons tested positive for the infection in Poonch.He said Srinagar recorded 10 new cases, while eight persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Baramulla. “Anantnag recorded seven new case and Samba witnessed six,” he said, adding four persons each tested positive for COVID-19 in Bandipora and Jammu.
He said Budgam and Ramban recorded two new cases each, adding one person tested positive each in Pulwama and Doda.
With 161 new cases, he said the total number of infected persons in J&K has risen to 4507. “Out of these, 3522 are in Kashmir and 985 are in Jammu,” he said.
The total active positive cases in the UT stood at 2785, including 2073 from Kashmir and 712 from Jammu.
He said 165 COVID-19 patients from J&K were discharged on Wednesday, after being treated successfully. “As many as 1671 positive patients have been treated and discharged successfully so far,” he said.
As many as 15 people have lost their lives due to infection during the last 72 hours, and 37 people in 21 days in J&K.
Ten districts of Jammu have reported five fatalities while 46 people have lost their lived due to COVID-19 in ten districts of Kashmir.
With these fatalities on Tuesday, the death toll in Baramulla has risen to nine, while the number swelled to six in Anantnag and five in Kulgam. Srinagar is the worst affected district with 12 deaths, followed by Baramulla with nine fatalities. Anantnag stand at number three with six deaths while Kulgam at number four with five fatalities.
