Security forces claimed to have busted a militant hideout and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition — including five AK 47 rifles, six pistols and 15 grenades – near the Line of Control (LoC) in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara.
A police official on Tuesday said that following specific information about a militant hideout, a joint search operation was launched by police and 6 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) in the forest area near the LoC in Kupwara on Monday.
“During the operation, security forces unearthed a militant hideout and weapons dump,” he said, adding the arms and ammunition recovered, included five AK 47 Rifles, 15 AK Magazine, 443 AK rounds, two UBGL, 57 UBGL Grenades, six 9 mm Pistols, 12 9mm Pistol Magazine, 15 Hand grenades and two AK slings.
He said with this joint operation, security forces deployed in Kupwara have successfully foiled the nefarious designs of Pakistan based militant operatives to smuggle illegal weapons into valley. “In this regard on Monday, an FIR No 01/2020, U/Ss 4/5 Explosives Substances Act and 7/25 IA Act, has been registered in Police Station Keran and further investigation set into motion,” he said.
