With 40 more persons, including 33 from Kashmir and seven from Jammu, testing positive for COVID-19 on Friday, the total number of infected people in the Union Territory of J&K has risen to 1489.
Meanwhile, the death toll due to the infection stand at 20 with two elderly women from Kashmir dying due to COVID-19 in separate hospitals on Thursday in J&K, 36 positive patients were discharged after being treated successfully.
In this first five days of this week, J&K has recorded 306 new COVID-19 cases.
An official on Friday said that 33 more people tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir division while sevenx new cases were reported from Jammu. “Shopian recorded the highest number of 18 new COVID-19 cases followed by Samba with four cases,” he said, adding three persons each tested positive for the infection in Baramulla and Kupwara.
He said Anantnag, Srinagar, Pulwama and Rajouri recorded two new cases each. “One person each was tested positive for COVID-19 in Kulgam, Bandipora, Budgam and Poonch,” he added.
With 40 new cases, he said the total number of infected persons in J&K has risen to 1489. “Out of these, 1271 are in Kashmir and 218 are in Jammu,” he said.
He said the total active positive cases in the UT stand at 749, including 603 from Kashmir and 146 from Jammu.
He said 36 COVID-19 patients from J&K were discharged on Friday after being treated successfully. “As many as 720 positive patients were treated and discharged successfully so far,” he said.
Last week, 389 new COVID-10 cases, mostly of them from Kashmir, were tested positive for the infection in J&K. One sixty people were tested positive for COVID-19 in J&K between May 4 to May 10. As many as 178 new people, including 174 from Kashmir and four from Jammu, tested for the virus between 27 April and May 3. About 168 people were tested positive for the infection April 20 to April 26.
As many as 118 people, including 111 from Kashmir and seven from Jammu, were tested positive for COVID-19 between April 13 and April 19. Meanwhile, 138 people, mostly from Kashmir, were tested positive for COVID-19 in J&K between April 6 and April 12. Thirty-three new positive cases, including 28 from Kashmir and three from Jammu, were reported on April 4 and April 5, making it one of the highest jumps in the COVID-19 infected persons in J&K.
Two elderly women died in separate hospitals due to COVID-19 in the summer capital, Srinagar on Thursday, taking the death toll due to the infection in the Union Territory of J&K to 20. With these, nine people have death due to COVID-19 in five days in the valley.
