73 new COVID-19 cases in J&K, toll mounts to 1390

With 73 more persons, including 37 from Kashmir and 36 from Jammu, testing positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, the total number of infected people has risen to 1390 in the Union Territory of J&K.

Meanwhile, the death toll due to the infection has risen to 18 in J&K with a 40-year-old woman from Anantnag dying due to COVID-19 on Wednesday in Kashmir.

About 31 positive patients were discharged after being treated successfully in J&K, where the first three days reported 207 new COVID-19 cases.

An official on Wednesday said that 37 more people tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir division while 36 new cases were reported from Jammu. “Jammu recorded the highest number of 20 new COVID-19 cases followed by Kulgam with 17 cases,” he said, adding eight persons tested positive for the infection in Baramulla.

He said Anantnag, Kulgam and Udhampur recorded five new COVID-19 cases each, adding Ramban witnessed three new cases. “Two people tested positive for the infection in Samba,” he said, adding one new case each was reported from Bandipora, Pulwama, Kathua, Poonch and Reasi.

With 73 new cases, he said the total number of infected persons in J&K has risen to 1390. “Out of these, 1188 are in Kashmir and 202 are in Jammu,” he said.

He said the total active positive cases in the UT stand at 694, including 560 from Kashmir and 134 from Jammu.

He said 31 COVID-19 patients from J&K were discharged on Wednesday after being treated successfully. “As many as 678 positive patients were treated and discharged successfully so far,” he said.

Last week, 389 new COVID-10 cases, mostly of them from Kashmir, were tested positive for the infection in J&K. One sixty people were tested positive for COVID-19 in J&K between May 4 to May 10. As many as 178 new people, including 174 from Kashmir and four from Jammu, tested for the virus between 27 April and May 3. About 168 people were tested positive for the infection April 20 to April 26.

As many as 118 people, including 111 from Kashmir and seven from Jammu, were tested positive for COVID-19 between April 13 and April 19. Meanwhile, 138 people, mostly from Kashmir, were tested positive for COVID-19 in J&K between April 6 and April 12. Thirty-three new positive cases, including 28 from Kashmir and three from Jammu, were reported on April 4 and April 5, making it one of the highest jumps in the COVID-19 infected persons in J&K.

A 40-year-old woman, who tested positive for COVID-19, died in a hospital in the summer capital, Srinagar late last night, taking the death toll due to the infection in the Union Territory of J&K to 18. With this, seven people have death due to COVID-19 in less than 96 hours and ninth in 10 days in J&K.
