Three security forces personnel, including two from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, were injured in an encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces in Nawakadal area of Srinagar on the intervening night of May 18-19.
A CRPF jawan also received minor injuries in the encounter, police said on Tuesday.
A joint operation by the CRPF and JKP was launched following a credible input of presence of terrorists in Nawakadal, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Police said.
In the resultant exchange of fire that took place Monday night in Kanemazar area of Srinagar, the three security personnel were injured.
At least two militants are believed to be trapped in the area. The operation is underway. “Firing resumed during search in the [Tuesday] morning and the operation continues,” J&K Police said.
Mobile internet services have been snapped in Srinagar and voice call service also down on some private network.
Earlier, Kashmir Zone Police, on its official Twitter handle, said, “#Encounter has started at #Kanemazar #Nawakadal area of #Srinagar. JKP and CRPF are on the job. Further details shall follow.”
