KVK Ganderbal empowers students through RHWE Orientation Boosts Farmers with SR4 seed distribution

GANDERBAL, APRIL 13: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ganderbal today organized a comprehensive orientation programme of Rural Horticultural Work Experience (RHWE) for the B.Sc. Horticulture (Hons.) students.

The programme aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and field-level application, preparing the students for the challenges and opportunities in the horticulture & allied sectors.

Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Director Extension SKUAST-K In her address, emphasized that the RHWE initiative is designed as a cornerstone for developing professional competence, allowing students to transition from theoretical frameworks to practical, field-based problem solving. She further noted that the engagement of students in rural settings is vital for fostering innovation in extension services, ensuring that the next generation of agricultural experts is well-equipped to address the evolving needs of the farming community.

Dr. Ajaz Ahmad Malik, Head KVK Ganderbal underscored the importance of the RHWE program in shaping the professional outlook of students. He emphasized that this phase is crucial for the socio-economic dynamics of rural farming to be understood by the students and that close collaboration with experts and local farmers, will be helpful in improving their extension skills.

During the programme Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist (Horticulture) gave a comprehensive presentation regarding the Strategic Plan of Action for the students, focusing on bio-resource mapping of Ganderbal District.

On the occasion, the Kendra also conducted a seed distribution under the Front-Line Demonstration programme, wherein SR4 paddy seeds were distributed among several local farmers.
