DC Kathua kicks off National Deworming Day campaign Drive targets to cover 1.90 lakh children across schools, Anganwadi Centres

KATHUA, APRIL 13: The National Deworming Day campaign was today kick-started in Kathua district with the formal initiation of deworming tablet administration at PM Shri Government Middle School, Kathua-A.

Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma underscored the significance of the initiative, stating that the National Deworming Day is being observed from April 13 to April 18 across the district. He informed that nearly 1.90 lakh children in the age group of 1 to 19 years, studying in government and private schools as well as those registered at Anganwadi Centres are being covered under the campaign.

Highlighting the health benefits, the Deputy Commissioner said that intestinal worm infections can adversely affect the nutritional status of children, leading to anaemia and impaired physical and cognitive development. He appealed to all parents and guardians to ensure that their wards receive the deworming tablets during the campaign period.

The DC further informed that dedicated teams have been constituted to ensure maximum coverage, with field functionaries visiting schools and Anganwadi Centres to administer the tablets in a systematic manner.

Chief Medical Officer Kathua, Dr. Vijay Raina, Chief Education Officer, Kewal Krishan and Block Medical Officer Parole besides Principal and staff of the host school were also present.
