
BANDIPORA, APRIL 08 : As part of the ongoing activities under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), an awareness programme was conducted today at HKM GDC Bandipora to sensitise students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of leading a healthy and drug-free life.
The programme was organised by the Higher Education Department as the nodal department, in collaboration with the Excise Department, Youth Services & Sports Department, and Health Department of District Bandipora.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of Principal, GDC Bandipora, Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra, Faculty members, students of the college, young and promising students representing various Higher Secondary Schools of the district.
On the occasion, Dr. G. M. Khan highlighted the alarming rise in drug abuse and underscored the urgent need for collective and sustained efforts to combat this societal menace.
The student speakers, both from the college and Higher Secondary institutions, deliberated on the multifaceted dimensions of drug addiction, including its root causes, devastating consequences, and preventive strategies.
Officials from the Excise Department contributed to the awareness drive by distributing informative pamphlets among the participants, educating them about the harmful effects of drug abuse as well as its legal ramifications. Students associated with the Youth Services & Sports Department also participated with great enthusiasm, presenting their views and reinforcing the spirit of youth engagement in social causes.
A significant highlight of the programme was the expert lecture delivered by Dr. Reyaz Zulfi from the Health Department, who provided a comprehensive overview of the detrimental effects of drugs on both physical and mental health. He emphasized the importance of early intervention, awareness, and community participation in addressing this pressing issue.
