Forest Department conducts Plantation Drive at DPL Shopian

SHOPIAN, MARCH 25: A plantation drive was conducted today at District Police Lines (DPL) Shopian under the flagship initiative “Green J&K Drive 2026” by the Forest Department in collaboration with District Police Shopian.

The drive was formally kick-started by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Chowdhary, in the presence of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Shopian, Qamar Rashid Khan, DySP (DAR) Shopian, Mohammad Ashraf alongwith other senior officers and officials.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from police personnel and forest department staff, who collectively planted a significant number of conifer saplings within the premises of District Police Lines Shopian.

Speaking on the occasion, SSP Shopian emphasized the importance of environmental protection and highlighted the role of such initiatives in combating climate change, improving air quality, and enhancing the overall ecological balance of the region.

He appreciated the joint efforts of the Police Department and the Forest Department in organizing the drive and encouraged continued participation in such green initiatives.

Divisional Forest Officer Shopian in his address, reiterated that such plantation drives will continue in the future as part of sustained efforts to increase green cover across the district. He further informed that the Forest Department will also undertake free distribution of plant saplings among the general public to encourage community participation in afforestation and environmental conservation activities.

The plantation drive concluded with a pledge by all participants to protect and nurture the planted saplings and to actively contribute towards building a greener and healthier environment for future generations.
