World Tuberculosis Day 2026 observed in Kishtwar DC launches TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (100 Days Campaign) in the district

KISHTWAR, MARCH 24: The Health Department Kishtwar today observed World Tuberculosis (TB) Day 2026. The event was graced by the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted the critical importance of awareness, early detection and timely treatment in the fight against tuberculosis. He asked the community, health workers and others to work in close coordination to achieve a TB-free district Kishtwar.

The DC stressed that patients should complete their full course of treatment and follow proper medical guidance, assuring that the administration is committed to provide nutritional, medical and social support throughout the treatment period.

The DC also underlined the role of public participation, saying, “Ending TB is not just the responsibility of health authorities; it requires active involvement from every citizen. Awareness campaigns, early reporting of symptoms and supporting patients in completing their treatment can save countless lives. With collective efforts and the spirit of Jan bhagidari, we can truly make Kishtwar TB-free.”

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Yudhvir Singh Kotwal informed that an amount of Rs. 18,54,000 has been disbursed to 389 beneficiaries (94% of the total 412 beneficiaries) under NIKSHAY during 2025-26 up to 24th March 2026. This support, amounting to Rs. 1,000 per month, is provided as nutritional assistance to TB patients throughout their treatment.

This year, World TB Day is celebrated under the theme: “Yes! We Can End TB. Led by Bharat. Powered by Janbhagidari.” Medical Officer, DTC Kishtwar Dr. Muneeza Riyaz gave an overview of TB management and treatment on the occasion. Students from Government ANMT School also spoke on the occasion, highlighting youth participation in the fight against TB.

The DC felicitated key speakers and distributed Gandhi mementos and certificates recognizing TB-free Panchayats in Kishtwar. Out of 136 Panchayats, 28 Gold, 4 Silver and 13 Bronze Certificates were awarded to the concerned BDOs and Panchayat Secretaries for their exemplary contributions.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (100 Days Campaign) 2.0 by the Deputy Commissioner on the occasion, reinforcing the district’s commitment to a TB-free future.

The program was attended by ACP Kishtwar Neeraj Sharma, BDO Kishtwar Ravi Kumar, CMO Kishtwar Dr. Yudhvir Singh Kotwal, BDO Bounjwah Aijaz Ahmad, BDO Trigam Roopesh Sharma, BMO Dachan Dr. Sajjad Hussain, BMO Chatroo Dr. Saima Agoo besides other officers and staff from the District Tuberculosis Centre and the Health Department, Kishtwar.
